BSP FITTINGS

The British Standard Pipe, used for common threads in British motor vehicles, is still relevant today.

• Thread

Diameter: Unlike UNF threads, and as with NPTF threads, the designation in fractions of BSP fittings (1/8, 1/4, 3/8, etc.) has no relation to any diameter in fractions of thumb.
Originally, these fractions defined the inside diameter in inches of the steel tube that the fittings were machined into, but now they don't mean anything numerically, and shouldn't be considered.
as appellations. In the BSP family, it's simple: a given pipe diameter corresponds to a given thread, so there is no alternative or choice possible.

Pitch: the pitch is defined by a number of threads per inch. Example: BSP 1 / 8x28: pitch of 28 threads per inch, or 28 threads every 25.4 mm, or 1 thread every 0.907 mm.
Identification: count the number of threads over 1 inch (or 25.4mm), or the distance between two threads if the length of the thread is less than 1 ''.

• Sealing

BSP fittings have a 60 ° conical seat seal.
The male fitting has a concave seat and the female fitting has a convex seat. There is no exception to this rule, and therefore BSP fittings do not exist in double seat. It should also be noted that BSP fittings sometimes require the use of a washer or a “DS” type lip seal or similar, to ensure tightness (for example when the implantation does not have a seat).
