This pushes the piston down with considerable force, generating the motive power.

4. Exhaust Time: When the piston reaches bottom dead center (BDC), the exhaust valve opens, allowing burnt gases resulting from combustion to escape from the combustion chamber. The piston then rises to push these gases out of the cylinder.
